Getting started

I bought my new machine today! For just above US $5 I got a 486SX 25MHz. It has a single 4MB SIMM, a Cirrus Logic ISA graphic card and an FDD. What the box doesn't have is an on-board IDE controller, which is OK, since it came with an ISA card with one IDE connector. The controller doesn't work with a CD-ROM, though, but that's all right. After all, who needs a CD to install Gentoo? I equipped the computer with a 341.3MB Seagate ST3391A hard drive. Now that's quite a machine!

The only problem is that it doesn't have an Ethernet controller yet. I'll have to buy one on eBay (about $1), which, due to Easter, can take some time. Really should have thought of that earlier...
